Micah is a sought-after educator and performer in northern Indiana. He is currently the adjunct professor of percussion at Goshen College and at Indiana University South Bend. At both institutions he teaches lessons, runs percussion ensembles, and instructs a percussion methods course.

As a performer Micah has shared the stage with Third Coast Percussion, appeared on “A Prairie Home Companion”, and been a featured soloist with numerous ensembles. Garrison Keillor described his playing as, “An astonishing beautiful musical event. Everything. All of it. Mesmerizing and Elegant.” He has performed in masterclasses with Leigh Howard Stevens, Svet Stoyanov, and composer Elliot Cole.

Micah’s newest project, along with collaborator Tristan Swihart, is pax duo- a percussion duo project. Since their inaugural season in 2021 they have had more than over 50 performances. Highlights include the University of Wisconsin-Madison, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, a concerto performance with the Maple City Chamber Orchestra, and a clinic at the Percussive Arts Society Convention in 2024. As a marching percussionist, Micah has toured the Midwest as a snare drummer with Legends Drum and Bugle Corps. He has taught high school marching percussion sections in Indiana and Wisconsin, most notably with MACBDA champions Sound of Sun Prairie and with the Northridge High School Raider Band, where he directed and arranged for the marching percussion section for six years.

While teaching at Northridge, Micah’s students were awarded first place in the PASIC chamber music contest. Past students have also been accepted to the Indiana All-State Percussion Ensemble, the Leigh Howard Stevens Indiana Marimba Seminar, and Birch Creek Music Performance Center. Additionally, Micah’s past students have gone on to study at renowned music schools such as the University of Michigan School of Music, the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, and the Eastman School of Music.

As a graduate student, Micah taught and arranged for the University of Wisconsin Badger Band. During this time his arrangements were performed for millions of fans in person and on TV as the band appeared in the Tournament of Roses Parade and performed the halftime show of the Rose Bowl Game.

Micah is a graduate of Goshen College and the University of Wisconsin-Madison. His principal teachers were Dr. Anthony DiSanza, and Dr. Christopher Fashun, with additional world percussion study with Thomas Ross and Todd Hammes. Micah also spent four summers studying and instructing with Leigh Howard Stevens at the Indiana LHS Marimba Seminar.

Micah lives in Elkhart, Indiana with his spouse Hillary, dog Magoo, and cat Mo.
