Policies

Individual lessons

Lessons are reserved time slots each week for 30, 45, or 60 minutes. During that time slot Micah works one on one with the student to delve into the music they are passionate about. Lessons take place in the evening Monday through Friday. If none of the available time slots work for you, additional times may be available on an individual basis.

Group lessons

Group lessons are a great way to learn to drum with some friends. In group lessons you have a 30 or 45 minute time slot reserved weekly. While the curriculum isn’t as flexible in group lessons, you still can choose as a group what types of percussion you want to focus on. Groups must sign up together for a single time slot, an individual cannot sign up for group lessons by themselves.

Studio class

Occasionally, we will have a studio class instead of regular lessons for a week. In a studio class students gather in a larger group and we have a special session. This can look different ways: a masterclass with a guest teacher, a special lesson on accessory instruments, a chance to perform for other members of the studio, or even a large group lesson on a world percussion topic.

Tuition

Tuition is billed by the month. Before the first of the month you will receive an invoice showing what dates you have lessons and what you owe. Tuition is due on the first of each month. Lessons will not take place unless tuition has been paid for that month. Late payment will result in a 10% fee.

Cancellation policy

When you have a conflict with a lesson time the first option should be to switch times with another student. This can be done through the My Music Staff portal. Please try to do this more than a week in advance. In the event of an approved absence the payment will be credited to your account for the next month. Approved absences include: illness, family emergency, and required school events. In the case of a required school event you must notify me more than a week in advance and make an effort to switch times with another student.

Lessons missed due to illness or conflicts on my end will not be charged and any payments will become credit for the next month.

Commitment

Signing up for music lessons is a commitment. It takes a long time to learn an instrument. As such, you must commit to taking lessons long term. A month of lessons is just enough to get started, not enough to begin to see the significant growth that comes from studying privately.
